Are there any digital piano techs on this list? (That would be one who works on digital pianos, not a computer generated tuner on the holodeck). I have a technical question if you can help. You may answer privately so as not to offend the purists. The instrument: An old Yamaha PF80, (Late 1980s vintage). The problem: MIDI "out" data is scrambled. Sudden crashing of random notes, velocities out of order, etc. There is an internal lithium battery mounted on the motherboard. The obvious function- to hold the memory in a programed chip when the unit is off. I suspect the battery is likely dead after 12+ years. I would also speculate the MIDI problem is likely connected to the aged battery and deteriorated memory in the programmed chip. The keyboard otherwise functions normally. Replacing the battery is the easy part. How would one go about reprograming the chip? I would suspect the programing would be uploaded via the MIDI "in" port? Obviously this instrument is worth little due to it's age so I'm not intending on investing much in it. I have called Yamaha tech support and hope to get a reply on Monday. Is there anyone else experienced in old FM synthisis keyboards who could contribute? Thank you. Rob Goodale, RPT Las Vegas, NV
