"Burn in" is referring to a common process of touch up. Some people use a hot knife (or similar object, could even resemble a soldering iron) to melt in things like colored shellac into a dent or scratch. To my (limited) knowledge, nothing's actually getting "burned", but it's become a common term. (Hope that'll do until a better explanation comes along.) Brian T.
