Rob,

It's been 10 years or so since we named our perpetual puppy/black lab
Murphy.  I seem to remember a couple of suggestions  from the "experts" at
the time:

Pick a 2 syllable name, it's easier for the dog to recognize but doesn't
take all day to pronounce.

Pick a name that you would not be embarrassed to shout loudly around your
neighborhood at all hours of the night or day.
