'Pedaling' is operating pedals, whether on a bike, organ, or piano. Half-pedaling, on a piano, could be partial lifting of the dampers to to achieve a bit of sustain but not too much, or partial muffling of already-ringing strings by not letting the pedal up all the way. Or with the soft pedal, one could half-pedal to get the hammers to strike at that in-between spot for tonal variation. But 'peddling' is selling stuff, like peddling pencils (or perhaps pianos) on the street corner. --Dave Nereson, RPT
