Bass strings give the most trouble when splicing. If the knot fails after
the second attempt,
plan on just ordering a replacement (all strings of the unison on a quality
piano). If you're
feeling brave, attempt the third go. Sometimes the third time's a charm,
sometimes knot.

Use 1/2 size larger diameter than the original for the splice.
