Hammer boring angle

Terry,
I believe you are referring to the "Vertical Pitch". I prefer to bore
hammers at 1 degree off 90 degrees. The worst offender for extreme vertical
pitch is S&S Uprights. I always bore to my specks and shorten the length of
the hammershanks to compensate. I works just fine and consequently the
hammers do not "over-center". Why S&S chose to do that is a mystery to me.
Perhaps, some "old-timer" might know. Hope this helps.
