Clyde,
Lots of good responses, so here's a mediocre one for balance. I
have recently switched from 15 degrees to 20 and haven't had any problems
clearing the plate. I do like to carry one of the narrow-walled tips for
those rare instances when that's all that will work, and it's much longer,
also. So... it can perform double duty. Being ambi-social in the treble
solves a lot of headache. Try it for just the unisons, or something.
Right-handing the high end on an old upright gives you the leverage and
control advantage of resting your arm on the top of the right side of the
cabinet, also. Any variation is good for your body. (well..... you know!)
