Damper Spoon Polishing/coating

I have found that on some uprights the spoons have dug holes in the
lifter felt. The symptom of sluggish keys didn't go away until I found
that the spoons had a coating of something the same color as the lifter
felt (usually green). Using a water based cleaner on a slender piece of
cloth (shoeshine style), I was able to remove the residue from the
spoons. Kind of a trick to get the cloth between the spoons and damper
levers. Then spray the spoons with your favorite lube. Of course,
replacement of the felt would be best. FWIW.
