What would happen, is that it would work just fine, as it did for me when I
first tried it before I found out socket head screws could be had in 4"
lengths.

This is easy too, in brass, oxide finish, nickel or zinc plated mild steel,
or stainless. The hard part is finding a better "looking" low profile acorn
nut than the standard shape.
