If possible I always try to at least meet the pianist even if it is just a brief handshake. This gets the message across that "I'm a professional too and I'm here to help". If you do this or if nothing else at least the stage manager, they will know you did your best and will respect you even if something goes wrong. Rob Goodale, RPT Las Vegas, NV
