I'll surprise ALL of you.....I believe, as a student of Architecture (!) that the purpose of the crown is to obviate the ILLUSION of a BOWED keyboard! Like the Parthenon's horizontal roof-line was actually arched UP slightly to make the eye believe it was straight. If it WAS straight, the eye was feel like the lines were bowed. Same with a keyboard. I guess! hah! BAF II
