Your experience reflects mine as well. If there had been no change in the 
last several years, I probably would have quit using them. I use a 4:1 
solution, multiple servings, and a drop of acetone on the strike point which 
I then go over with 400 sandpaper to take off the remnant curlies. Thanks for 
your input; I had never considered using them on Steinway--same results?
