Greetings -

I just finished a new book, published in 2001, that some of you might
find interesting. It is titled "The Piano Shop on the Left Bank", and
subtitled "Discovering a Forgotten Passion in a Paris Atelier", written
by Thad Carhart.

It is an easy read, and not intended as a scholarly book, but does
illustrate quite well how the marvels of the piano can elicit deep
passion from its practitioners. Needless to say, not many books center
their focus around a piano shop and its proprietor, and for that alone it
is enjoyable. There is also a bit of interesting history of the French
piano industry and a particularly memorable trip to the Fazioli facility.
As well, many historical pianos of interest are discussed along with
their merits and shortcomings.

All in all, an enjoyable way to spend a couple evenings!
