I have not heard of Bohemia pianos but last week I visited our local
distributor for Petrof, not having looked at Petrofs since shortly
after the liberation, when their quality was very poor. I was very
impressed with the build quality. The larger uprights had Renner
actions and the smaller ones Deltoa. It seems the Czechs in general
are interested in moving fast away from the rubbishy products of the
'socialist' era, though the same cannot be said of the Poles,
according to my friend the distributor. I know that Petrof do make
pianos under a different name also, but in England it is not Bohemia,
so it may be another factory altogether, but I am convinced that the
Czechs have a tradition of good engineeering and workmanship which is
now able to flourish. I believe the VW/Skoda link-up is very
successful for example.
