So, is there some hesitation on the string-maker's part to make a new set (or at least the incorrect ones)? If you have the data provided and the new strings do not match your data, then the string-maker owes you a proper set, or refund your money. I have used David Sanderson for several sets. They are always less than 1/4" from the bridge pin and agraffe (very little unwrapped speaking length - except for a few of the low tenor notes on the long bridge where rescaling dictates they be shorter) and every once in a while I will find one as I am installing that I think he may have been a millimeter or so off, but when I finally bring them up to pitch, I see that he is right on the money. You send him very accurate data, and he will send you very accurate strings. Actually, I have gotten two wildly inaccurate strings from him, but I called to report it, he looked at his data and said (paraphrasing) "oops, you are right, I'll wind a new one for you today and overnight it" - and the next day I have my new, proper-length, string. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Newton Hunt" <nhunt@optonline.net> To: <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Wednesday, October 03, 2001 9:21 AM Subject: Re: Unwrapped ends of bass strings > > Simply *looks* like they were installed wrong...ie. left string should be right hand > > string...straight across the section. > > > > Bob > > Sorry, not the case.
