The bulk I get is 190 proof, with 5% water. Less would be better, I agree, but this is still very little, and it seems to dry very fast. I did see a website for buying shellac, which had alcohol with less water for sale. They said that the shelf life of the shellac would greatly improve if it was made with this waterless alcohol. I buy the liquor store stuff because it is easily available, not terribly expensive, nontoxic enough to be intended for human consumption, and it seems to work okay. I would not be sure what was in the denatured.
