Hi to all: Yes, there was a facgory which took back pianos with defective soundboards. During the 70's when Baldwin was importing pianos from Kawai with the name Howard on them there were a number of pianos with dried-out soundboards which exhibited splits. This was before the Japanese companies discovered that central heating systems were so harsh on pianos. We had about 50 grands awaiting new boards at one time. Many of them also needed new pinblocks. These were all eventually reprocessed and sent back to dealers. Jim Coleman, Sr.
