> How could humans do such a thing ? Hi folks... done a lot of thinking since writing these words a couple days ago. I have read most of the various responses to this and the other threads, noted the understandable chest pounding, anger, frustration, sorrow, and the need to share feelings and emotions, all the while struggling with my own thoughts and feelings... trying to come to terms with this. I think I have my answer now. I asked, "How could humans do such a thing ?" and the answer is "They cannot". Only a being distorted from its humanity, or perhaps denied its humanity from childhood could / can envision, let alone carry out such an act. Only a monsterously distorted being can convince / brainwash / lead others to become such distortions. Despite our anger our pain, we must all realize that if our response is to have any hope of contributing to an end to such tragic events, then that response must not be one of revenge. If there is anything at all to be learned out of this then it must be the realization that there is no honor in killing, there is no call for joy or celebration in bringing death to another. It does not matter how horrible the crime, for the tragedy that leads to humans becoming such distortions is 100 times greater and in the end it is that which must be prevented. This does not mean we should not seek to eradicate the evil, nor does it mean that we should not weild what weapons we must in the doing. Of course we have to put a stop to this, whatever that entails. It does mean tho that once done, the real work begins. And it will take the united efforts of all nations, all peoples to succeed... to even begin to succeed. The whole thing is so immensly complicated really, religious fundementalism, unholy alliances in the name of the "necessities" of international politics, unfathomable poverty...on and on and on... perhaps it is too much for us. But if we are to succeed we must listen to the words said so many times in so many ways by so many of our fellow humans throughout our common history. All you need is Love. The greatest of these is Love. Whatever we do, we must never loose our hold on our love and care for one another. We are all, after all born into this world with a human heart, and a human spirit. These qualities are far to precious to let any one person loose. Because when they do loose them.... look what they become. I guess I just needed to write this out... and send it off...whatever its worth. -- Richard Brekne RPT, N.P.T.F. Bergen, Norway mailto:rbrekne@broadpark.no
