This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Terry, This has happened to me many times. I have very small drill bits that I = simply chuck reversed in a drill press leaving a very short length so as = not to snap off the bit. Choose a size that barely makes it into the = hole, that way you are assured the bit (actually a drift at this point) = will be a teeny bit bigger than the wire trapped in the hole. Should = work. You can use a piece of thicker piano wire as a drift if you can = get a piece straight and de-burr the ends and file it flat. I don't know what the standard practice is for sorting out the spring = weight for each section, but I just use heavy springs in the bass, = medium in the tenor, and the lighter ones for the rest of the action. = In any event, you will need to adjust the spring tension once installed = because all the supply house springs are set for maximum return right = from the package. Rebuilding an upright action. Hammer butt spring rail. = Removed all springs EXCEPT for three short pieces of spring wire that are = apparently stuck in original holes in rail (broke off). Gotta get 'em out so that = I can install the new ones. I have tried pushing them through to no avail. I = guess I can drill next to them, but that will screw up alignment a tad - = maybe not too much. There is nothing to grab on to to pull on. Any = recommendations for removal? Or should I just drill right next to original hole? I am = constantly amazed at little tricks to remove original stuff. Also, I purchased medium and heavy hammer butt springs. What is the = accepted wisdom in placing these? If both are to be used, I suspect heavy in = bass and at some point in scale switch to medium. Should both be used? Where = should the change be made? Thanks big time. Terry Farrell ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
