Why brown, and why with glue on one side? 

I use card stock, cut into strips. No, it doesn't stay there when you take 
off the hammer, but you can remove it easy when you make a mistake. So you 
have to do it again whenever you do take the flange off, but it doesn't take 
that long to do it.
