Unglued Hammerheads (Clamping)

I use Hot Stuff. But I think most are pretty much the same. How is it you get it on your fingers? I do sometimes, but just wipe it off real quick. After gluing on a dozen hammer felts, I will have crusty fingers the rest of the day! Just don't glue those little digits together!
