No shows: Was Convincing the Client

Hi all!

Last week I made arrangements with a regular customer to
just let myself in to tune while she was not home. She left
the key in an envelope inside the screen door. She even left
a check for me in the envelope. However, I could not get the
key to unlock the door. After about ten minutes of jiggling
the key I gave up. I wrote "key does not work" on the
envelope and left for my next appointment.

As I was finishing my next tuning, the customer called me
on my cell and told me in an accusing tone of voice " There
is nothing wrong with the key, I just tried it in the door
and it worked the first turn!"

I did not argue with her and said I would skip lunch and
come over and tune her piano immediately.

As I stepped into her house and put my tool kit next to the
piano, the agitated customer said "I want to SHOW you that
there is nothing wrong with the key" So I stepped outside
with her as she locked the door behind us. She then
proceeded to demonstrate how well the key works...

The key did not work!

We were now locked out of her house with my tools locked
inside. I sat on the steps as she walked up and down the
street looking for anyone that would let her use their
phone to call a locksmith. Once she made the call we sat on
the steps and waited for over half an hour before the
locksmith came. When he finally arrived it took another 30
minutes for him to get the door unlocked. By the time the
locksmith left, a good 90 minutes had passed. I had other
appointments that day and had to schedule another date to
tune her piano

The embarrassment displayed by the customer was payment
enough for the time I had lost.
