no damper felt backing

I have done damper replacement with no red felt backing where there was once red felt backing with very good results.

I would not be surprised to find that the red felt backing provides much the same benefit as the white middle layer found in some bushing felt.

But I could be wrong. Happened once back in '79.   ;-)
