Susan,
Assuming that the school is a non-profit organization, you need to get a 
"Thank you" letter from them which states that you did in fact donate the 
piano.  Then you need to get an independent technician to give you a written 
appraisal of the piano - independent meaning not one affiliated with the 
school.  The appraisal amount is the donation amount.
