Friends, I just got the following from someone in Vermont (according to email address). Was I too blunt? BTW, 1960 was apparently the last year that Aeolian used the name "Mehlin". ------------------------ At 18:24 12/30/2002 -0500, you wrote: >Dear Sir, > >I am interested in learning how to play the piano and am considering the >purchase of a spinet identified as Mehlin & Sons with a serial number of >60854. I would appreciate any information you can provide me. xxxxx, I am not personally experienced with the Mehlin of that era (1960), but the now defunct parent company is famous in the trade for cranking out a lot of inexpensive pianos with a variety of names on the front. I would suggest that you hire a local member of the Piano Technicians Guild to check the instrument for suitability. As in automobiles, there can be a _very_ wide variation in the condition of 40+ year old pianos. Would you buy a 1960 Rambler without having a mechanic check it out first? ---------------------------------------- Conrad Hoffsommer PTG RPT, MPT, CCT Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) for Bio-powered Digitally Activated Lever Action Tone Generation Systems
