My, this one sentence certainly got a lot of response.  I certainly don't question
the fact that the ribs are attached to the rim and are therefore providing support
for the soundboard, and perhaps even fixity as Del stated.  But I'm still a bit
sceptical about the idea of waves bouncing back from the rim.  This is a variation
on what I've been conjecturing about in previous posts.
