In all this you could sort of look at these as a huge collection of tiny ... Olson uses the word "pumps" pushing away at the air in his description of sound board radiation.... btw.. I read your stress waves reply to Phil and this also points in this same direction. You said then "Acoustic radiation is caused by minute pressure differences at the surface of a body." As for using the correct terminology JD.... wouldn't that be nice, but we are both living on the planet earth and here people regularly redefine terms, or redescribe the things terms refer to on such a regular basis and for no other reason sometimes then just because they don't like the existing term, that the whole concept of "correct terminology" is very largely in the realm of wishful thinking. Kinda vagues up the whole communication thingy a bit I know... pain in the pattootey... but such is life I guess. Your analogy with the magnets is fine. Its not my picture of the relationships between particles that was at issue...
