Terry:
Sometimes the soundboard or a little piece of finish may slightly touch the
nosebolt as it passes through the soundboard causing major buzzing problems.
Also if the old piano has a piece of molding around the soundboard hiding the
crack between the soundboard and rim, it might be loose causing the problem.
I assume this is a wood to wood sound and not a metal to metal nor metal to
wood sound. Also once again just today I located a buzz caused by the
piano......the mirror on the wall behind the piano. I also assume you press
up on the soundboard while attempting to insert a feeler gauge between all
ribs and soundboard...checking for unglued ribs. On a few cases I have found
the ribs unglued but the board not cracked. Oh...I'm glad it is you looking
for this buzz and not me. Solving buzzing problems in most cases is most
distressing.
