A couple weeks ago I posted about voicing a Yamaha G-3 where the owner was complaining that the piano was much brighter than some number of years ago. I serviced her piano two days ago. 1979 G3. Moderate grooves in strings - I told her that we will reshape hammers and then see what kind of voicing we would do. Removed the action, that by the pile of dust and crud between keyframe and keyslip and elsewhere, clearly had not been removed in a long time (likely since 1979). Shoe-shine sanded hammers. Reinstall action and ready to voice. Lady plays a few notes. Her jaw drops to the ground. "Don't touch it any more - this is perfect!" "That's amazing!" "Did you voice it already?" "It sounds beautiful - just like it did when I bought it!" As I stood there with my steam iron in hand and a couple cotton rags dangling. Darn, didn't even get to use them. IMHO, it did sound quite a bit better, but still could use some voicing. Oh, well. Thanks to all those that described needling, etc. Maybe next time I'll get to try those. Terry Farrell
