Beethoven in the Temperaments Gasparo # 332

Six Degrees of Tonality Gasparo #344

try these places:

Probably can be found at Amazon.com also. ****I just checked
Amazon.com, found Six Degrees, but not
Beethoven in the Temperaments.

I haven't seen them yet in Borders or such like places, but it wouldn't
hurt to
ask.

I'm not going to take the time to write reviews here and now, but these
recordings are well worth having,
excellent introductions - especially the ''Six Degrees'', because some
of the pieces are played in more
than one temperament, providing that vital and difficult to achieve
comparison where the temperament
is the ONLY variable. In the first experience of Historical Temperament,
Well Temperament, even Meantone,
there can be a question of what sounds different, or indeed, does it
really sound different because of the
temperament. Here, the temperament is the only difference, and immediate
comparison of HT and ET
is actually possible; and even comparison of different HT's on the same
piece; a Mozart Fantasy which
really shows off the effects of Well Temperament and Meantone. You may
or may not feel comfortable
with the meantone performance, but it's hard to dispute that the
meantone tuning really gets the point
across.
