Bechstein key height

Hello Raymond.

I have another idea. The fallboard on Bechstein pianos is held by two little rods fit in the outer rim. Many times, those rods are a little bent, so the fallboard itself is too low. I often regulate key height so the fronts of the keys show a perfect square when at rest, which does happen if you set the key height to the standard 64 mm above the front rail. If then the keys knock on the fallboard, and balance rail punchings are thin, then I check those rods (who often happen to be bent), and if not, I scrape a little wood from the fallboard.

Just my idea.

Stéphane Collin.

| Dear list,
|
| I am trying to fiqure out key heighth for a Bechstein grand. I must jack up
| the the back rail felt to fit properly with the keyslip. Then I find I don't
| have enough movement in the key to get enough key dip. Any ideas? Thanks
