June Journal and FW's

Terry:

I'm not generally using WAS's at all, except on rare occasions when
solutions call for them. If you have WAS's on only a portion of the action
and if you want a smooth FW curve, you have to graduate the tension down to
zero while the matching FW curve is increasing. The Stanwood idea is that
you want to have a smooth SW curve, FW curve and equal BW's. In order to do
that you need equal SBR's. The wippen assist spring allows you to, in
effect, change the SBR from note to note by altering the wippen strike
weight.

Renner assist springs wippens come without assist springs in the top
section, though you can add them. The Tokiwa sets come with assist springs
through the set. I believe that Stanwood puts them in through the set as
well.

with use of WASs, you would have an action with uneven BWs? Or perhaps
graduated BWs?
