An ETD is, after = all, only a tool to help you achieve what the ear must finally approve. = So in a sense a good ETD tuner always tunes aurally. The ETD may or may = not increase your speed, prove helpful in the learning process and = establish reference points not possible via any other method. It is a = tool that when used properly can enhance a tuning for a given piano and = give great freedom and physical comfort for the tuning process. In the = hands of a person who blindly uses any device to dictate the position of = a given note, disastrous results can occur, especially where poor = techniques of hammer manipulation involved in setting both string and = tuning pin are concerned.=20 The archives are filled with the pros and cons of ETD usage. There will = be extremes of opinions at both ends of the debate over their usage. I = hope you will digest all of them and choose your course well. FWIW. So my apologies if this had already been discussed. Are there still technicians who tune orally, or are all using = electronic and digital devices? And are there tuning devices available for visually impaired or blind technicians? Would the use of a tuning device = improve tuning speed?
