List, We (another tech's shop where I do part-time) are rebuilding a Yamaha C7 from mid-60's. Dampers were number-stamped at the factory, so we didn't bother to write new numbers on. Re-felted, polished wires, etc. etc., time to re-install. Wait !!@#$% number 43 is missing! After much searching and more re-counting than a Florida election we find that the guide rail has 67 holes, and the highest damper is numbered 68, and we have 67 dampers. - - the factory number guy had skipped a number. On this same piano, we had a visiting Japanese-American relative translate the chalked characters on the underside of the plate: "this side down", and "dry" (no lacquer?) Just goes to show, the factory guys are not immune.
