I will admit that where I have seen these problems arise is when used in more stressful environmental conditions than pianos are usually subjected to - as in automobiles and boats. The West System fairing fillers are AMAZINGLY easy to sand - its like sanding balsa wood (mmmm, or pretty close) - IMHO, a much superior product for fairing a surface - pretty easy to make a surface mirror flat.
