ok, I'll bite.

Keyword: down and dirty.

So, you are just trying to get rid of the "ping", use your buckskin strips, 
medium CA on one side,(few drops on the end) give it a shot of accelator, 
stretch across top and repeat on the other side.

Or, like I did many years ago, use contact cement, allowing a good 10 mins. 
to dry before glueing together.  Use the same technique as above, one side 
on, pull across to other.

So.... no glue under the strikepoint, just stretched buckskin.

Matches surprisingly well :)
