FWIW the dates/times I get on messages received are in my local time, Conrad
you sent this at 12:33, lunchtime, yet is it even breakfast time where you
are?

Wim, control panel or right click over the time and a menu appears

As I understand, some providers like AOL/Yahoo have THEIR clocks default on
GMT, and it will put _that_ time stamp on the message rather than the one
you can control.

Theoretically, you _can_ control that, but several local AOL users I know
haven't found the magic combination/incantation, yet.

No, I don't know how - I'm not on aol.
