Hello, I have no specific answer on hardening, only that I was told that even a very hard metal will be attacked by the strings with time, and then possibly will provide the usual tuning/rendering problems and noises, but Ron OVERS say that his process works fine after 5 years of use. What I've been told to use is a bronze rod from a Beryllium bronze quality. The bronze is hard enough and a bit self lubricant, it should be inserted in a place prepared for it on the plate. I thought of welding it but it is probably unnecessary. Still waiting for the next opportunity to use it for replacing worn capo and aliquot rest son the next Steinway (or Bosendorfer).
