Yes, there has been many a time I have informed a customer that their piano
is only worth spending money on for sentimental reasons or semi-mental
reasons.
Apart from this, many technicians here are very dubious about using oversize
pins on a "pre-war" piano for fear of cracking the pinblock. It  is
apparently quite a common occurrence.
