The black ink of the markers can turns purple, may be with the lacquer, may be with the light. I ve seen some that where not aging very well (large letters, not thin kind) The edge of the felt writings can be "roughened" when applying the lacquer, one may do some experiments for sure. With a good book on lettering and the correct brush , Enamel seem to be OK, I use to take a lot of picks with a digital camera before, and have them at hand , it helps. transfer letters works fine (LETRASET) for strings numbering while less easy to find in these PAO days. I've seen some open pinblock where the lettering was made with hot metal letters (burning knife ?) I don't really know where to find these but they look nice , with little -------- where the strings gauge change (if you see what I mean) Isaac OLEG Entretien et reparation de pianos.
