Una corda in uprights

Today I have seen a very old Pleyel upright, serial number 123751 & 11 F
426 (anybody has a Pierce Atlas handy?). It is a very nicely made piano,
and - big surprise - the left pedal (out of 2) was a true una corda! It
shifts the action and hammers (but not the keys) to the left, just like in a
grand.
This is so much better than the normal upright left pedal that simply pushes
the hammers nearer to the strings, because it allows all the tone variations
possible in a grand.
I wonder why nobody seems to make uprights with una corda pedal today?
