Depends on how hard you hit. Rachmaninoff  wouldnt hit the piano anywhere near
as hard as some of these clubbers out there, and if he did... he'd last as a
pianist for maybe a couple years.

That being said... as long as you dont destabilize the tuning by whacking too
hard... no its not counterproductive... its just not neccessary. Again tho...
whatever tuning style works for you is great.
