loose pinblocks - C/A glue ??????/ Richard Strang

It's a Hamburg made Steinway, about 1952 variety. I have not been able to
get a single part from Steinway, NY, that fits. It had waterfall keytops,
too, which I changed a couple of years ago. Plate bushings? Well, you may
have me there. I'll have to check the next time I service it. As far as the
CA glue is concerned, I talked to a lady at Dryburg and she assured me the
thin CA I ordered is what everyone is using on loose pins. It would not seep
in around the pin though. It just welled around it and stayed wet. It did a
good job of gluing the coil to the pin, though. What a mess.

< I have read about many technicians who have had good luck with the CA
approach. It didn't work for me. I also tried it on a single loose pin in a
Steinway D, and once again, it did not make it past the plate bushing. >

Richard,
Hmmm? Something is definately amiss here! Steinways do not have "Plate
Bushings"!!!!!
I've had good success with CA glue! As a matter of fact, it worked better
than I had anticipated! However, that one job was a unique situation and I
will reserve judgement/recommendations until I've given it sufficient time,
(possibly 2-3 years), to see if it holds.
If I were you, I'd evaluate how you are doing these applications. Also, CA
has a shelf life and some brands are better than others. If you were not
using THE VERY FRESHEST available...or if you had been toting the stuff
around in the car for a month, then ya gets what ya gets!<G> that last
statement goes with a "DAMHIK"!<G>
In the past, I have been extremely critical of CA, used in any application
on pianos. Matter of fact, I've been down-right obnoxious/verbal about it.
I'm still not completely confinced, but it just may be a whole lot better
than the olde "Pin Dopes"!
