I'm in total agreement as long as you can actually get a needle=
 in the hammer.  If not I think you have to go with steam...check=

Yes they do. But you have to work at it. Opinions will vary, but=
 I'm finding the best results with Samicks come from needling=
 visa vi steam or alcohol/water treatment. 
Three or four sessions to break down the hammer enough without=
 wrecking it. Needle about 30 times each shoulder with 5 mm deep=
 three needles one day... let it rest and come back tommorrow.=
 The felt will have closed up some, and it will be easier to=
 needle again. Repeat a couple three times until you have an easy=
 time of fine needling just under the crown. You can get hard=
 hammers to end up with a very nice consistancy this way, and the=
 resulting voicing has a high degree of staying power.
