Action Bracket Sources

Is there any reason why new brackets couldn't be cut out of something
like 1/4-inch-thick aluminum or stainless steel? (Ignoring any concerns
for originality, of course.)

Anyone with a band saw, a drill, and a tap set could make them pretty
easily, and machine shops don't charge a lot to make stuff like this.
