Longitudinal Calculations

Bernhard,

Interesting comments on duplex and longitudinal wave, so does the
duplex act like a transducer, not a filter ? (or is it the same ?)

I noticed that in the minimens documentation you say longitudinal
wave occur usually on higher than 2 m/s strokes in the bass and that
because the hammer is then allowed to hit the string while moving on
the shank (flex ?) - I understand it mean that the moving force of the
hammer exite more the longitudinal mode, is it the case ?.

I noticed on some Steinway the basses hammers are glued with a closed
rake angle (less than 90°) should it be to avoid the apparition of the
longitudinal tho allowing for a better forte level ? (fight the shank
flex ?)

Then lighter playing gives a less round tone also is not it ?

Conducing interesting experiments with different kind of wire, what a
luxury to have all those data immediately available on the clock style
display !

Best Regards.

Joe,

ok i´m not right sure if you are making joke with me but i understand
now if
you are not familiar with metric, 1025 mm speaking length tells you
not
immediately that this is the string length of key E of a Steinway
model B
(211 centimeters long)
and the measures are really 0.95mm for core wire and 0.55mm for the
wrap
wire diameter

let´s unite on a measure we are discussing in to avoid
misunderstandings

regards

bernhard
