Hi Joe ,

just semantics, I appreciate a lot your view andd experience sharing
too, that is just the excessive use of the word "crap" that tend to
annoy me <G>.

Then about pearls of hide glue, I also had batches of pearls that
where stinking from the start, others that does not drip well or had a
kind of brownish color when diluted.
The glues sold by piano suppliers here have no real information on it
we just can have "nerves" or "bones"

I was not able to find a really good supplier, like you have at
Milligan's (I'll check with them for samples BTW, and buy you a little
quantity of 3X - lI'll post privately for that.

The better hide glue I've find came from a German supplier, the
consistency is very clear and thin, transparency, it takes a long time
for mold to appears, so I deduct some product have been added. It is
hard as stone when dry (nerve being added for a little more
elasticity)- I am vey found of it, but just asked more information
from the supplier. I'll let you know if thet can talk of grades or
such.

Then also for gluing the way we proceed seem to me more important that
the glue itself in the end. I am not ribbing or gluing frame parts,
mostly felts, clothes and sometime hammers.

I also have some sheets of glue that are produced experimentally by
one of our cabinet furniture products maker. I did not find it so
excellent, but they pretend the process (sheets) allows for a maximum
purity.

BTW what kind of experiments did you do ?

Happy Christmas to you.

Isaac
