Noisy Hammer Butt Spring Coils

If the coil of the hammer butt spring is touching the edge of the "route" on
the rail, it can make an awful sound. No amount of lubrication will fix it,
IMHO. The fix, oft-times is to put another spring in and make sure that it
is seated FIRMLY on the "route" surface. Sometimes even this will not make
it go away. That's why some manufacturers put felt between the coil and the
wood. Unfortunately, the felt can cause other problems. Case in point, the
Everett Console of the 70's
