Well you never want to put people down or trash talk the things they are
proud of =85 but you don=92t want to speak outright falsehoods either. =
The
answer is Creative Truth-telling.
=20
An example: I was having a tough time tuning a recently imported
Chinese-made grand piano. You know the trouble =85 you pull it up to =
pitch
=85 you=92re almost there =85 one more tweak =85 and bwooop it jumps up =
15 cents
=85 grrr =85 so you put a little back pressure on it and pound it down =
=85 it
almost gets there =85 a little more pressure and =85.. beeooop it drops =
15
cents.

Anyhow, it was reminding me of tuning a certain classic line of
American-made pianos. Just as I formed that thought, the proud owner
walks in and asks =93So, how do you like my piano? I got a terrific deal
on it.=94
=20
=93Well,=94 says I, =93It tunes just like a Steinway!=94
