Been there, done that, but you should tune it _before_ preparing it...  ;-}

One of the profs here likes to do a Cage piece.   I don't.   We compromised 
by using all brass screws which wouldn't nick the strings.  She has a 
ziplock bag full of "approved" preparation materials.  We also have a 
designated "prepared" piano. (old Baldwin 6'3")
